A
spin-off of DJ and MC battles, VJ Battle was concieved in 2002 with
the world premier bout held during SIGGRAPH 2003 and sponsored by Edirol,
ATi and IdN. VJ Battle has been held every year since and has been used
as a model for numerous VJ Battle events worldwide.
The
formation is as follows:

Artists head to head on two screens; 1 DJ plays a 3:30 minute track.
[The first 30 seconds are not judged.]
At
the end of 3 minutes the audience will judge the two artists by using
cell phones to send a text message choosing their VJ of choice. A graph
will appear on the screen showing the outcome of the votes. The winning
artists will advance to the next round.

Visual interpretation of the music
Rules:
-VJs must mix between at least two sources of video [Either software
or hardware].
-No single premixed clip played by itself for 3 minute.
-Artists must provide their own playback devices.
-No teams or collectives-- Individual VJs only.
-Maximum number of input sources is 4 [This is to speed up transitions
between sets].
-The artist’s signal will be routed for them to the projectors.
-The musical style for each round will be announced before the round
begins. Example: Round 1: Techno, Round 2: Breaks, Round 3: D+B...
