A cross between an edgy electronic tailgate party and a real-time drive-in multiplex, Video RIOT! showcases San Francisco’s homegrown VJ community. Artists create a massive outdoor wall (1 city block wide, 7 stories high) of projected images across from our studio.
VideoRIOT! is an intense collective projection experience, inspired by the series of monthly Video Salon gatherings. In 2002 the first Video RIOT! brought out an estimated 500 people, over 70 artists and 40 volunteers, 30 projectors, 2 laser crews, 1 intelligent lighting installation, 7 generators and one pirate radio transmitter to a vacant parking lot in the SoMa District of San Francisco.
VideoRIOT! has grown each year since, and in 2004 our audience included San Francisco Police and Firemen in addition to nearly 1000 viewers. 2004 Video RIOT! was funded by the San Francisco Arts Commission.
VideoRIOT! has been featured on Tech TV, San Francisco Chronicle and the Guardian.
